It is a delightful radio which reeks of quality, with top class materials, styling and performance, and has a rugged "tough" look and is described as "All Weather". The radio is a very convenient highly portable size, but typical of Sony it packs tremendous performance and distictive design flair into a compact package. It offersvery good tuning capability accross 3 bands LW/MW/FM from 88 to 108) aided by a tuning light on the dial needle This example is in wonderful complete and original condition, even the dial light is working correctly at the push of a button. I am providing a good range of photos so you can see for yourself the condition, originality and completeness of this radio. It is over 35 years old and is bound to have a few scuffs and marks, but nothing of any significant note. It does have a small screw securing the band switch that has been added. The aerial doubles as a carry handle and retracts into a black ribbed sheath. It extends and retracts fully and correctly and locks perfectly into place to become the handle. The radio runs from 3 x C cells (not supplied) or via a 4.5v power supply (available as an option see below) to run from your mains sockets. You can hear the radio playing on youtube and see that it is in perfect working order, with all the controls working smoothly and progressively.There is a rtary contron each side one for tuning, the other for volume. Also a rotary tone control, and toggle switches for band select and AFC (Automatic Frequency Control). Here is a very rare chance to get a very fine example of this highly desirable 35 plus year old Sony. This is a good example for a collector, or for any buyer who wants a high quality portable transistor, combined with the style that only a vintage set can provide. And this more than most! POWER SUPPLY I can supply this radio with an original SONY 220/240v to 4.5v DC power supply, which has a trailing lead to mains which can be fitted with a plug to suit the domestic sockets in any 220/240v country. The power supply will be an additional £25. Alternatively for UK buyers only I can offer a new 4.5v power supply integrated into a UK mains plug and equipeed with the correct connector tip for the Sony input socket. This option is £12. WHY" BUY IT NOW" I list on a "BUY IT NOW" basis. I am unconvinced that auctions are a good buying experience. You are obliged to "watch" something you want to buy for up to 10 days. Then, to stand a chance of winning you often have to set a date to be at your computer to enter a last minute bidding lottery, usually at an inconvenient time. You end either dissapointed or concerned you have paid too much! Surely life is too short. If you see something you like, and are happy with the price you should be able to secure it immediately. No fuss. No problems. BEWARE EBAY BARGAINS The majority of vintage radios for sale on ebay are very poorly listed , sometimes deliberately. You have little chance of knowing exactly what you are buying from a single out of focus photo, and a brief description usually saying something like "untested as I dont have a battery". This will usually mean the bargain buy radio you end getting does not work and may be cosmetically challenged. In short it becomes an expensive mistake that niether looks or sounds "right". It is possible that you will find examples of this radio apparently selling for less in some ebay auctions. But with this radio you know exactly what you are going to get. I have provided a comprehensive range of good clear photos, and a detailed accurate description. The radio will have been cleaned and fully checked before despatch. I offer a full refund in the event the radio does not match the description. The price of the radio is set at a level in relation to auction prices of similar radios in similar codition where possible. Vintage radios that work and that are in good condition offer tremendous value for money. They are collectible, useable, and enjoyable, may well hold or increase in value, and available at a fraction of the cost of a new radio. This vintage radio is just a lovely thing to have.
