This a very rare 1960's vintage Sharp BPH-20 Solid State AM Radio, produced in very limited quantities in the early 60's, one of the earliest transistor radios made by the Sharp Corporation. Sharp Corporation, founded in 1915 as a mechanical pencil manufacturer (hence the name "Sharp") by T. Hayakawa (of Japan) whose motto was "make products that others want to imitate". Sharp Corporation was the first company in the world to market a solid state calculator in the 70's, and later pioneered LCD large screens TVs and projectors. This radio is in superb condition, with very minor signs of wear. It is fully operational. Nothing is broken or missing. The battery compartment is clean without corrosion, like new. It comes with an original battery tube. The cabinet is made of wood with beautiful polished metal trims, all in superb condition. All prints are in good condition with no fading. The tuning dial is smooth and tight. The volume control is static free. The sound is very pleasant and room filling when the volume is turned up. It operates from either 4 "C" batteries or with the built-in AC power supply. Batteries are not included. AC cord, in excellent condition, is built-in.
