judeatmoatfarm Store NR MINT GRUNDIG YACHT BOY 210 LW/MW/FM/SW: BEST ALL ROUND VINTAGE RADIO? This is a Grundig Yacht Boy 210. A true classic from the 70's and one of the most famous radios in the world, and in the opinion of many one of the finest general purpose radios ever made. YOU CAN SEE AND HEAR THIS ACTUAL RADIO PLAYING ON YOUTUBE HERE (link to be added) SEE THE RADIO MUSUEM ENTRY FOR THIS MODEL http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/grundig_yacht_boy_210_2.html It is not just the sound of these Yacht Boys that excels, and of course the sound is magnificent, but rather it is the sound plus the magnificent way this Yacht Boy model looks. This example is in the "wood" finish, by far the most durable version available compared to the black/silver version. This is a 40 year old used radio, so do not expect it to be perfect , but it is amoung the best Grundig Yacht Boy's I have ever seen. It will have some minor scuffs and scrapes, but overall it is in remarkable condition for a 40 year old set. I have provided a link so you can hear for yourself how it plays. Equally I am providing good clear photos that you can supersize for you to assess the cosmetic condition, originality and completeness of this beautiful radio.The arial is original and complete in perfect condition and working order.Unusually the top bright trim is present and has all its band lettering intact, although the rear bright trim has been replaced.Also unusual is that the end cap surround trims have retained most (around 90%) of its chrome finishAll the control knobs are present and original.The grille is clean and undamaged.The only flaw of note I can detect is not visible and niether does it affect the function of the radio....the battery compartment has suffered some past battery leakage, and the battery terminals have had some corrosion, but have cleaned to provide perfect functionality on battery power.Overall this is an exceptional Yacht Boy. This Yacht Boy is in excellent used working order operating on MW/LW/FM and SW. The volume and tone control work progressively without excessive crackles. The tuner works smoothly and locates stations accurately. The sound is clean and undistorted with good volume levels available. A nice touch with this set is the inclusion of a full set of customer documentation. These documents are good quality reproduction copies of original documents, and include a customer envelope containig Owner Instructions, and a Service/Circuit Diagramme. This is a very nice, fully operational example of a very desirable vintage radio. It is a wonderful looking addition to any household, but not just an ornament it can be listened to with real pleasure daily. Yet given it is not completely original cosmetically it is at a very affordable price for a fully operational Yacht Boy 210. They simply do not make radios like this any more and probably never will again. A modern DAB set will struggle to match the incredible sound and look of the Yacht Boy 210. Something like a Roberts Revival BAB costs over £150, yet I am asking just £170 for this magnificent Yacht Boy. A radio that may well go up in value in the years to come, compared to a modern DAB which almost certainly will not. I am listing on a Buy It Now basis because I think the auction format can be unsatisfactory for buyers. The auctions often oblige you to "watch" something you want to buy for up to 10 days, and then enter an auction end bidding lottery usually at an inconvenient time on a Sunday night, when you may end not winning the item or paying over the odds. Better if you like the item and you like the price to be able to secure it immediately without any fuss. So if you like this Yacht Boy why not simply Buy It Now...before someone else does! POWERING YOUR VINTAGE RADIO Batteries: This vintage radio uses 6 x 1.5v D Cells (not supplied) GRUNDIG POWER SUPPLY For £30 extra, I am able to supply a genuine used Grundig Power Supply. This fits into a cavity in the rear of the set, and will operate from 110v to 240v, making it suitable almost anywhere in the world. Alternative Power Supply Unit (PSU) For £20 extra I am able to supply a new PSU suitable for use anywhere that uses 220v -240v AC domestic supply, and suitably adapted for this radio. This power supply unit does not fit into the set as does the Grundig option described above. WHY" BUY IT NOW" I list on a "BUY IT NOW" basis. I am unconvinced that auctions are a good buying experience. You are obliged to "watch" something you want to buy for up to 10 days. Then, to stand a chance of winning you often have to set a date to be at your computer to enter a last minute bidding lottery, usually at an inconvenient time. You end either dissapointed or concerned you have paid too much! Surely life is too short. If you see something you like, and are happy with the price you should be able to secure it immediately. No fuss. No problems. BEWARE EBAY BARGAINS The majority of vintage radios for sale on ebay are very poorly listed , sometimes deliberately. You have little chance of knowing exactly what you are buying from a single out of focus photo, and a brief description usually saying something like "untested as I dont have a battery". This will usually mean the bargain buy radio you end getting does not work and may be cosmetically challenged. In short it becomes an expensive mistake that niether looks or sounds "right". It is possible that you will find examples of this radio apparently selling for less in some ebay auctions. But with this radio you know exactly what you are going to get. I have provided a comprehensive range of good clear photos, and a detailed accurate description. The radio will have been cleaned and fully checked before despatch. I offer a full refund in the event the radio does not match the description. The price of the radio is set at a level in relation to auction prices of similar radios in similar codition where possible. Vintage radios that work and that are in good condition offer tremendous value for money. They are collectible, useable, and enjoyable, may well hold or increase in value, and available at a fraction of the cost of a new radio. This vintage radio is just a lovely thing to have.
